Getting frustrated with this, maybe someone is knowledgeable.....

I am ripping a video from a DVD to use in Adobe Premiere.

The DVD is not protected, it is actually a pregnancy 3D Scan coming from
a MRI scanner.

I am ripping it with AutoGk and getting an AVI or Mpeg-4 file, not sure....

The ripped file opens no problem with Windows Media.

I am importing this file into Adobe Premiere, no problem. It plays in the Monitor/Source file window.

However when I drag it into the Timeline, and plays it from the Timeline side, it gives me a black screen. I did use 'rendering' to turn the red bar into a green one.

This is pissing me off, is it something to do with the compression when I ripped it, or someother arcane format ??

Thanks if anyone understand this....

A tip (but it might not work). Move the file to another place on your hard disk. I've had black screens before and moving the source file to another directory cured the problem. No idea why.

Good luck... I'm screaming at a Mac running Digital Performer today, which keeps crashing - seems 4.5 gb of ram isn't enough

Thanks will try that.

The other bizarre thing is that when I take a still screen shot of a video frame - either with
Premiere or even with PaintShop Pro from Window Media Player, it comes out as a black picture.....Although the source Mpeg runs OK with WMP

I have had this as well, as far as I can tell it is something to do with the WMV format. I tried pausing the vid once and hitting print screen, and all I got was black. Try using a conversion software, such as Canopus or Sorenson Squeeze, to cobvert it.

The 'cant printscreen a video' problem is because of the way your graphics card works, c'est la vie.
