It was very good. Some amazing shots. But I was trobled by some shots that I really did not think were much good. I would love to know why they were given merit.

The overall winner, was one. Nice shot but it was not that amazing imo. It was not at all sharp either!

Mix of film and digi and even a few shots on basci set-ups. ie. Canon 300d with 18-55mm kit lens!

Lots of the shots were taken on D70 and D20's and the lens of choice seemed to be Sigma 70-200 2.8's (far more than the Nik or can equivalents!) and the 100-400 L.

Worth a look if you have time.

A lot is down to the judging criteria used, its not always on technical mert or artistic impression. Particularly with wildlife photographs judges will assess how difficult it was to take a particular shot, e.g. is it a small rare and timid animal that the photographer had to track down and wait patiently for days or weeks just to get a brief glimpse of let alone be in a position to take a photo of. Fashions play a part too, four or five years ago you only got top marks if you encouraged a bird to attack you and photographed it from below as it dived at you with its beak open and screaming blue murder ! Currently its showing animals in their environment rather than a close-up frame-filling shot of the beast.

As long as you enjoyed it, and maybe picked up an idea or two, that's the main thing.
