I want a D200, not because I think it will make me a better photographer, but because I want a cool new toy.

Go over to DPChallenge.com and see the results people get with much lower spec kit than a D100... It's not the camera it's the person behind it.

Didnt ansel adams say the same thing about photography, referencing trpiods (although he didnt mention PDChallenge.com either)

Actually... how much do you want for your 100D?

A stroke of luck on my part and due to finances it looks like I wont be in the market for new kit this month . Taking someone elses advice I might try out something cheap/second hand first, and upgrade a little later on. Might also be up for a 20d, although I want to wait a bit to see what happens.

D100; this is Nikon land

Second-hand you could consider a D70, or new, a D50 or D70s.

They go for about £450 body only on Ebay so I guess about £375 to you. It's body only and is classed as a Pro camera. You could join the CLUD Couple it with this and you have a great start

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NIKON-24-120mm-

ITS A NIKON

If I bought a Nikon as a temporary camera, id have to flog it along with the lenses when I did the switcheroo back to canon.

How do you pronounce Nikon anyway?
Knee-Kon
N-eye-kon
Nih-kon

I couldnt buy a camera whose name I didnt know how to pronounce

Why would you want to change it? Nikon is far superior to Canon. This camera is a Pro model -Details here -> www.europe-nikon.com/details.aspx?countryid=20&languageid=22&prodId=108&catId=91 and unless you sit down with the Manual, read AND understand everything in it, you will probably never use it to it's full potential. That applies to all DSLR's inc Canon. We, the members of the CLUD - PH's largest camera make - pronounce it NICKON.

I found out today that "work for camera" exchange thingy isnt going to happen, so I might buy a camera through my business instead but if I do, it wont be this month as I've got to spend a few grand on advertising on Monday :sigh: :defeated: :broke:

If i can get insurance money for my now deceased G5 (Im now positive its not just resting) it probably makes sense to hold off and buy new.

Well, going back to the D200 for a momnet, I see that dpreview now has a full review:

www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond200/

dpreview said:
'Which brings us to the competition, from a build/features point of view it's clearly ahead of the Canon EOS 20D/30D and in my opinion a step above the EOS 5D, a baby D2X.'

It's not perfect but then it doesn't cost £20,000!

Interestingly it also says 'Good dynamic range'

As all Nikons are 12-bit, does this imply some cunning electrickery going on underneath?
