As my camera doesn't have a audio-in jack, it means i can't put an external mic in it to recored the exhaust sound when videoing.
so what is the best way to record the sound? with out having the driver/passenger talking over the sound.
1. Get another camera to record the sound (A camera that has a mic jack) and film fowads with my old camera and backwards with the new one or use a bullet cam, (whilst recording the exhaust sound)
2. Use a laptop computer to record the sound then put the exhaust sound over the video footage.
3. Get a dictaphone and put the sound over the top of the video footage.

Any ideas on whats best to use for good sound quality????

Cheers

At a guess, is it a sony?

Does your camcorder have av in? If so you could use a pre amp microphone with or without a bullet camera, this would allow you some flexibility on positioning of the mic. The mic plugs into a camcorder av lead with phono plugs, that is plugged into the av in.

Ignore all of the above if your camcorder doesn't have av in! LOL

Either a new camcorder, or see if you can find a Sony microphone compatible with their hotshoe, not sure if they make one that has a cable to allow remote positioning though?

Laptop is a bad idea, I tried it. all you end up getting is electrical interference and problems with your HD getting bounced aroun, unless it is just static stuff you want?

MD recorders have similar problems but if you can find someone with a portable DAT recorder they do the trick.
Another camera will be ok too if you can get a decent mic for it.

Sorry, used to being in my world.

MD = MiniDisc. correct there.
DAT = Digital Audio Tape. Developed by Sony only took off in Pro Audio circles. Very steady digital system that works in a similar way to mini DV tapes only for audio. Unfortunately the portable machines are pricy, though most are solid, reliable and v.well specced.

Your biggest concern is isolating the mic's from stuctural vibration and placing them close to what you want to record and as far away as possible from what you don't want.

If you have any decent audio editing software and tools i can give you some tips and tricks to help, just ask.

The Minidisc and DAT recorders are two different machines.
MD recorders can be picked up cheapish, DAT's can't.
good luck searching and experimenting.
