When I finally move to the frozen north, I intend to run a webcam on the village website. (looking over the loch of course)

Could you nice people just have a look - see if it's working (at the moment in a small window - I'm on VERY slow connection here - only one pic per minute)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>NOW OFFLINE <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

If it's all gone pear shaped... then I've screwed up

VERY, VERY slow...

after 3 minutes and several refreshes it finally loaded all of the picture... When first opened you can only see the first 10% of the pic - it's like surfing for porn in the dial-up days...

Like I'd know about that!

Slow is OK... when it goes live it'll be broadband... just checking the rather dodgy third party software

OK... I've changed the settings so that the bottleneck is less rubbish this end.

Are you able to see pics with different times if viewed 3 mins apart?

(I just don't trust my local network to tell me the truth - need a remote 'spotter')

All I can see is a blank box with a red cross in it.

Scrap that, upon re-opening I can now see it

Ta chaps - looks like it's working for everyone except the Fish household

No idea why... Maybe you're music lovers.

Third party software is 'Web Cam Control Centre' (Shareware) will do ftp uploads, motion sensor and send an e mail with the pic

Webcam (not being shown in it's best light) is the Philips SPC900NC - does 1.3 mp 800 x 600 (good for the Loch methinks!)

Thanks again... closing it down now so you can all relax.

Just so you aren't disappointed... The Philips SPC900NC is only a 640x480 sensor (Sony ICX098), anything higher is interpolated. It is a good sensitive CCD sensor though and is popular with amateur astronomers. The only webcam I know of that does a true 1.3MP is the Logitech Fusion. I didn't see the piccies, so I don't know if you are using the standard built in lens, but it is possible to fit them onto cheap SLR lenses for really good shots. As if you don't have enough projects on your hands
