Saw a Nikon d50 reviewed on a gadget show and now I want one,

Currently have a film SLR (Dynax 500- with extra 70-300 lense and lots of other booty) and a snap shot fuji digital (F401), which I thought if I sold them both on Ebay I could raise enough money to buy a d50. How naive I am.

So, questions are....the best place to get a good price for 2nd hand cameras?
And the cheapest I could get a d50 for?
(so far found one on Amazon for £400)

TIA

If you've got KM lenses and with KM dropping out the market, there may be bargains to be had on a 5D or 7D (built in antishake... mmmhhh)

Hank... I'm sure its a really really obvious question, but my old lenses for film camera fit a Minolta Dynax bayonet, will they work on a Minolta digital camera then?

At long last, Minolta SLR owners have a *very* worthy body to use with their lens collections!

Most SLR lenses fit the Digital versions - BUT often varous functions of the lens (autofocus/metering etc) don't work.

Buy the Nikon D50.

BTW Martin - I also saw the review and the Canon came quite a respectable SECOND behind the Nikon

I also saw that review and found it very helpful. However, I was dissapointed that most if not all of the shots were taken with very expensive big zoom lenses and not the standard kit lenses. Could be misleading for people buying said cameras??

I've had the KM 5d for 6 months now and have been really impressed. It's my first Dslr, having come from a Minolta compact. It is rated very highly in all of the magazines but I feel it hasn't sold in large numbers purely because of brand loyalty from the canon and nikon boys. If you can have a play with one, give it a go. I had the 350d and d70s in my shortlist and to be honest I preferred the feel of the KM. I also just bought an old 70-300 lens from and auction and it works perfectly with the camera.

Meant to say that the gadget show test using different zoom lenses seemed ridiculous to me. Why couldn't they have had a decent Sigma zoom that fits them all to get a real comparison??

Well, as long as I can raise the cash, I am going for it, I know it sounds quite petty but I would rather have the d50 because of price, I am cutting it fine already as I have no cash to put towards camera so have to rely purely on what I can sell second hand to buy camera.

However I have to see one & use one before spending that amount of money on a camera (its a lot to me) so the make could change if I dont like the d50, dont fancy a 2nd hand one either, would rather shop around.

If I were to keep lenses and buy a KM 5D body, I wouldnt be able to raise the cash, so I'd better forget that.
Mind you, I rarely played with my zoom when I did use the camera as it was not a good quality on the pictures at 300-600.
I also prefer to play with wideangle

Thanks everyone for your help

I bought a D50 a couple of months ago Di (with 18-70 lens) and IMO it's a cracking little camera. Was thinking about a second hand D70 but in the end went new for added piece of mind (albeit from Jessops!).

I say go for it!

Di, you know how much I love my D70 and how much I've used it since I got it last May. I say buy the D50, you know it makes sense!
