Hi everyone,

I'm trying to photograph a metal chair.
Now with cars and other objects which have large flat sections its easy to highlight the edges.
How would I apply this technique to something with thin sections ?
...in the comfort of my living room.
The background is a black sheet and the floor has a black sheet as well.
any help much appreciated.

What is the best way to create very thin beams of light ?
Perhaps a maglight with a DIY slotted cover ?

thanks

R

A friend of mine who used to make videos professionally used to use really simple materials for light effects - tissue paper, white card instead of expensive diffusers/reflectors. For an atmospheric 'venetian blind' effect he used to hack oblong holes into a sheet of card, giving stripes of light across whoever he was filming.By varying the size of holes and the angle of the card in front of a light source you can get a load of different effects really cheaply. Another pair of hands and/or a tripod really helps here, and with powerful lights watch the fire and contact burn risk.

You can also take the chair out of its setting, outside, or into a whiter room in order to make the shot easier - daylight and shadow are easier to come by outside! You might feel a bit of a loon looking for an industrial wasteland to shoot your chair against but it could make for a great pic.
