Does such a thing exist... I only really want a digi cam to sell stuff on ebay and take a couple of shots at home, but it would be nice to get something that I could take along to Le Mans for example and still be able to get a half decent shot out of...

Recommendations please - and where to buy from?

How much is a minimum amount of memory to opt for also - is the standard 16k really going to be enough?

Cheers
Dom

Blimey - that's a tough one. I suggest have a read through 'what camera' and see what they recommend in the bargin basement section.

I was just in Smiths - so looked in 'What Digital Camera ' £0 - £200 and they reckon the Olympus 400 (about £150 - probably get it for less off the net)

Fuji, Kodak and Canon also do a few models around that kind of price level, and you won't go far wrong with one of them. Check out www.warehouseexpress.com as they have detailed specs on a number of different cameras.

The standard memory cards are rarely big enough to take more than a handful of shots, so you'd be wise to budget a few quid for a bigger one, but you won't need anything too big or fancy - 128 or 256MB should do the job nicely.

Be very careful. There is an awful lot of junk out there. I would never buy a camera without reading the review first. Its likely that there are half decent low spec cameras out there (which is what you want) as well as bad ones, so check out the final page (conclusion page) of the reviews after finding one within your budget to make sure its a goodun - go here: www.dpreview.com

Cheers chaps - Ive had a quick scout through the links you provided (one of which is in Norwich too which could be handy).

Looking like the canon powershots as a range are the sort of thing Im after - I can just decide how much I wanna push the budget, and if I require movie capability to decide the specific model.

Can I assume that battery life on most of these cameras is 'fairly poor'???

You'll be amazed at how things have moved on. I bought Mrs Get a Nikon D50 and it went for days (and many hundreds of shots) without a re-charge.

My First D1 (1999ish) cost more than a decent new car to buy and the battery lasted for about 100 shots - took about 5 hours to re-charge and after 200 charges was completely shot.

Actually that kinda' sums up my first car as well.

Have a look at Jessops eBay site too for some heavily discounted models that are at very good prices.
