going to sell my 17-85 and get something faster. wondered if it has any issues with focusing and the flash?

I assume your running Canon gear judging by the focal length of lens you mentions....

A good friend of mine has been using a Sigma 24-70EX DG for a while now, both on a Canon EOS300D and more recently a 20D. As far as i know he's had no problems whatsoever with it and has got some stunning results. Results with the built in internal flash have been fine. I dont know about additional flash units as he does'nt have one. I used to have the 28-70EX lens which worked well but that was on a Minolta body....

Hope that helps you...

bought a sigma 24-70 EX DG about a month ago and its superb. very pleased with it.

it was a bit noisy and not very fluid on the zoom ring when i first got it, but the motor is now alot quieter and the ring has smoothed itself out with use.

Don't have one myself but i've heard a lot of good reports about it.

As for the zoom ring, that's a bit of a Sigma trait, both my 70-200 f2.8 and 120-300f2.8 have been the same. They loosen up soon enough.
