I might be being particularly thick here but is there anyway to to set the default shot type to be timer?

It always goes back to whatever it was on previously (single or continuous) and if the camera is on the tripod for whatever reason, it's a PITA to change it every time.

Eh?

Surely it only reverts off the setting if:

a) you reset it, or
b) you switch the camera off

WRONG!!

......oh, no it does switch back doesn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never needed to try it yet, obviously! Hmm! No can't seem to see any way to change that, just the self-timer time

I'm making an assumption you are triggering with the shutter button and the timer is to reduce shake.

The solution is to get a hold of the remote release, this setting can be applied and retained for as many shots as required thereby achieving the same end result.

I've got one but found it doesn't trigger unless you're using the remote from in front of it which can also make things awkward. I have seen one generic remote that comes with a mirror on a laccy band that you put round the lens so you can fire the remote from behind, maybe I'll have to look out for one of those or rig something blue peter style....

Dunno how mine does it, but my remote control seems to trigger from behind the camera OK...
