Thanks guys
That "shed of the week" is part of a trend in classic VWs called "rat look" or "hood ride". The idea is to have a rock solid classic VW underneath, quite often with a big engine and leave the body as you find it. Or in that case the paint had been deliberatley stripped to speed up the ageing process. They should also be as low as possible.
This belongs to a friend of mine...
...he spent six months, with another friend welding new floors in and sorting the mechanics, but just applied anochor wax to the top. He is building a twin turbo motor for it now.
They all have MOTs and love the fact that people in the street assume it is a shed through and through. Some of the ones in the USA where there is no MOT are complete death traps it has to be said. The price of split busses has gone through the roof and "even in that state" they can be worth well over £10K. A restored early example can fetch £35K
