I have a Metz 45 CT-5. I have had it for thirteen or fourteen years. (Blimey! I can hardly believe that.) It is extremely powerful and takes people by suprise sometimes. It has a head that can be adjusted to various angles to allow for bouncing off secondary surfaces. It is quite heavy and takes six AA batteries.

Well, the SB800 is a Nikon flash if I remember rightly.

To be honest, the best one for you is the 430EX (or an older 420EX if you can't stretch to the newer 430). Both are excellent and apart from the 580EX are the only flashes that fully support the auto-white balance and other ETTL-II features of your camera.

I think Sigma do a clone which is meant to be OK, can't remember the model number though.

I have used a Canon 420ex and think it's a great flash !

Uses four AA batteries -

Used to use four Duracells until ...

I recently purchased an Energiser battery charger
(Came with 4x 2200 mAH Batteries).

Recycle time is a lot quicker.
Charges four batteries in 15-18 mins (batteries perform better after a few charge/dsicharge cycles).

Toatlly agree - I use Ansmann 2600 mAH NiMH batteries in all my flashes, and their fast charger is phenominal.

Got them from www.budgetbatteries.co.uk
