Fingers crossed I'll be able to upgrade the kit lens to the Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L USM next month
Which begs the question - just how bad is the 18-55 kit lens?
Note by the absence of a 70-200IS lens in the intial lineup Simpo...
Only due to lack of fund... er, lack of stock(!) mind
It should arrive tomorrow!

Well done Bob, i'm sure you and your 30D will be very happy together!

Excellent news! Teamed with the 24-70 and I reckon you have a winning combination

Kit lens can produce some ok results, needs top be stopped down an awfull lot to be sharp(ish) colour and contrast will never be exceptional but its not as bad as its press, epsecialy for 'free'.
Leapt out of bed like a toy crazed kid on christmas morning today when someone was at the door... only to find the memory card had arrived ahead of the camera
Its going to be hard to get any work done today

The first few shots you may well be a bit disappointed compared to the G5. That's because you're used to the over sharpened, oversaturated, super contrast images compacts produce by default. Give it a couple of days and go back from the 30D shots to the G5. I guarantee looking at the G5 output will look horrible. The difference between ITV and BBC showing the cup final springs to mind....

Thats good to know, I'll bear it in mind. Andy M said:A 350D. Had I received a 5D (which isnt in stock for 2 weeks anyway) I wouldnt have said a word
What have they sent you?
UPDATE: They're picking up the 350d, and dropping off the 30D tomorrow
So, do I take this one for a test drive tonight, or not

I would suggest NOT opening the 350D so as not to invite problems....
As for the Kit Lens, it produces its best results at f8 or thereabouts. It'll do a job until you replace it and you can always challenge yourself to get the best out of what you have before blowing £££ on the 24-70L
The 18-55 is also handy as a travel lens if you don't want to lug anything heavier around.

... this doesnt look like a 30D. Maybe there has been a few last minute changes... when I suddenly noticed it wasnt a 30D

I'm talkin about opening the camera box and packaging therein.
It should be quite clear it's a 350D and not a 30D. Just trying to save you arguing over re-stocking fees.
Still, it's your money
