Had a quick look on the web at the DMC-FZ30 and some good write ups although some questions over image quality.

Any feedback/alternatives etc greatly accepted...

I've got an FZ-20, and if I hadn't bought a D70, I'd have bought the FZ-30!

Low-light quality isn't great because of the noise above ISO400, but otherwise it's very good.
