Has anyone ever done/seen a guide to circuits for the best places for photography? This would have to be for public access rather than the official trackside phtographers.

At Monza one of the best places is the platform at the Parabolica where you can get very close to cars.

All these photos were taken with a crappy Canon Digital Ixus V3 from the platform at the Parabolica

Ok it's Castle Coombe this Bank Holiday Monday.

Where's best for action shots etc? Quarry Corner?

If anyone sets a photo guide up, I'll have tips on at least half a dozen circuits.

As for Combe:

Most incidents happen at Camp and Quarry. Both have really good vantage points for cameras. Camp (last corner before pits) is great as you get no fence (if you go high enough on the bank) and it's only 2 mins walk from the paddock.

Quarry is where all the big shunts happen as cars travel at high speed (I managed 145) over Avon Rise and then have a left then hard right. Not that you want to photo crashes of course.

I've never taken pics at Quarry, but seem to remember there is a big fence.

Here are a few (of about 1000) of mine from either side of Camp Corner. These were from trackdays when I was driving, so pics were a 'back burner' (Well that's my excuse)

i agree that camp is quite a good place to take pics. i went to combe a few weeks ago to try my hand at racing photography. i watched only a few races cos it was raining really quite badly for most of hte time, but in that time i got quite a few of major oversteer and a few spins from the bank on camp.

further along from camp is a good straight with a fairly low fence, so if you happen to get a parking spot backing onto the fence you could always use your car to raise you up enough to see over. but if you do this choose your spot carefully as some cars will be travelling really quite quickly so it will call for some very short exposures or very quick panning.

Happy to mate. Thing is, as I say - I was always driving, so the places I found were 1/open to me on track days (often not on race days) 2/near paddock!

At the bottom of (here we go again) www.SadGit.net there are pics from about 40 track days from about 10 circuits - I can give you any amount of info you'd like from there - Feel free to ask!

Steve - (not picking car up until Monday now - poo)
