All,

Just wanted to share some software that was recommended to me - Pixmantec RawShooter Essentials. I've downloaded it and just started to use it and all I can say is WOW! It makes working with 15mb NEF files just as easy as working with JPEGS. Photoshop CS takes a good minute to open a NEF file - this is instant. Very very impressed. And you can make adjustments to the images and then batch output them all to TIFFs.

And it's free!

www.pixmantec.com

Try it out - you may never shoot JPEG again!!

RSE is very impressive.

RSP is worth paying for as it has a few extra bits that are useful.

I've never been so pleasantly surprised by a piece of software as I am by this - i've just returned from my first test of the D200 (family portrait session for a colleague) and i can't believe how quickly I'm hacking through these images - i've gone through 1GB card's worth in about half an hour, and i'm almost done with the second. Unbelievable.

Aye, use RSP, very good software and a bit of a bargain. My only gripe is the preview window that insists on displaying the thumbnails in reverse chronological order from left to right

Another vote for RSP here, been a user of RSE since the start.

RSP forms a key part of our workflow, allowing us to shoot RAW and sort through over 1000 shots from a day's shooting in an incredibly short time - near impossible in PShop. Speed is impressive and PShop is only used for the odd touch-up or specialised post-processing, most images are purely dealt with in RSP.

I'm going to get RSP I think, simply because RSE doesn't have Levels support - and when i've adjusted the levels of RSE images in Photoshop CS i've got far better results. RSP should allow me to adjust the levels too.
