I hope someone can help, I used my D70 yesterday for probably the second time ever. When I got home I tried to download the photos onto the PC however the camera seemed to of locked up, when I switch it on the green LED on the back keeps flashing, and the screen on the top does not come on. I have tried re-setting the camera but nothing happens. I left the battery out all night and when I switched it back on this morning all seemed OK, I put the date in and set the clock, took a couple of shots then switched it off; I switched it back on again and the green LED is just flashing again, I do not know what to do next, any help would be appreciated.

Does the info on the following link sound familiar?

Hopefully it's not this problem
www.anands.net/faq/gblod.html

A friend who used a D70 had this problem and the camera had to go to Lehmans in Stoke (I think) They had it for 3 weeks and couldn't fix it so it then went back to Nikon who replaced just about every part in the camera (pcb, shutter mechanism, aperture control, light meter etc) and it was finally returned to him after 8 weeks. It probably would have been cheaper to give him a new camera, he actually bought a D100 while it was away for repair and doesn't really use the D70 anymore. Like I say hopefully this isn't the problem with yours but the flashing green light does seem to be a bad sign

At least Nikon are now admiting there is a problem, when my friend had his problem Nikon denied that it was a common fault even though he could show about 40 other people with the same problems via the internet.

Just thought I would update you as to what happened after I posted this thread (months ago) Firstly my camera started behaving itself, that was until Le Mans luckily the day we got back. Took my camera down to Nikon in Richmond they said they would look at it and report back, I received the camera back with a new PCB and full clean and service all free of charge.

Well done Nikon

I have Nikon to be very good with repairs. I sent in my D70 6 months out of warrenty for a problem that was blatantly due to misuse (a scratched sensor), yet I received it back, repaired for free, 12 days from the day I sent it UPS ground. I was extremely impressed with Nikon's level of customer service.

I've just had my D70 repaired FOC with the BGLOD problem.
It took about 3 weeks and despite the camera being out of warranty - no charge.

It is a crap problem - but at least Nikon do the decent thing and take the blame for a design/production fault.

Just called Nikon about the same problem on a D70. The techie said it was a "known problem" and said they will repair it free of charge so I have sent it to them. Looking forward to getting it back working.

If they keep to their word their customer service sounds great. First time I've ever had to return a Nikon product!
