Hi

I am a pro photographer and now need to build a web site.

I have been taking pics for a living since I left school and rarely experience extended quiet periods. I have always generated work by word of mouth and face to face meetings. However, most new contacts now want to see a website before they further their communications.

Although a large portion of my work is now digital I am not capable of doing it entirely on my own. All I actually want is an on line type portfolio with a few bits of copy. Are there pre-built formats that can be bought and adapted or do i need to start from scratch? I want to be able to upload and remove pics by my self and not rely on a third part to do so.

Any advice welcome. Thanks Jonathan

Have a long hard look at www.theimagefile.com - we essentially run our business through them - www.matabooboo.com

John and Howard there are very good (both photogs), it is a reasonably priced service that is designed totally for photographers including services such as on-line ordering and printing etc.

If you just want webspace to show a few pics though, you may be better with some of the guys on here that run hosting services that will pop up soon...

Design that's sensitive to content can be quite difficult, so if you aren't a designer then it's probably best you pay someone to do this. have you seen any other sites that you like the look of? What you don't want to end up with is a site that over-powers your images.

If you do have any design knowledge then having a go yourself costs you nothing (except your time) so if you have time to mess around then do so.

Using something like Jalbum you can write your own skin so that you can generate galleries and upload them easily.

If I had to design a site for a photography client using the brief you specify then I'd probably use something like Jalbum with a skin to match your site so that you can update it yourself. Cost would be unlikely to be above £500. Mail me through my profile if you want more details.

Give me a call in the morning, will send you an email with contact details.

We build custom designs, and integrate them with our CMS (content management system) which will allow you to update all aspects of their websites yourself, individual photos, alt text, captions, galleries, photo orders, text, meta content etc - we can also help with search engine optimisation. Happy to help

I was talking to my friend Lee about a similar thing, building a site that easy to up date its not that hard its about the way the site is designed and set up.
Try this Chap Lee Weyland

www.lwdesign.co.uk/portfolio.asp

He builds good sites and is used to Potagraphy
