I kinda like it, taken with a camera and a lens whilst out walking locally in Stirlingshire, Ochil hills in the distance and Stirling/Dunblane visible . . . glorious day.

How do people manage such rich colours in their photos? Mine seem wishy washy by comparison.

Ref colours : the sky is so important because if it's burned out the picture is wasted . . . in this I used a 0.6 stop ND Grad filter on the sky (as you can see the clouds are not 100% white) . . . this also ensures that the general exposure is pretty much spot on over the whole frame and hence you get nicer colours because everything is properly exposed . . .

Other than that it's basically a raw conversion and crop . . .

Photoshop, auto adjusting of levels for the basics, after that there is much more technical stuff that requires quite a bit of skill .

Edit: As FergusD has just illustrated with his post .

I tend to always use a linear polarizer (i'll upgrade to Circular when I can afford it!) and 0.6 ND Grad for just the reasons mentioned above! Definately the way to get the exposure spot on. If you don't have an ND Grad or similar filter, take two shots - one ground, one sky and merge them in Photoshop.

Oh and getting saturation, contrast and levels right in Photoshop really does transform an image.

One of my intentions today was to play with filters, I did try NDgrad + polariser but this was OTT and caused vignetting . . .

Still . . . I will probably try it again on another lens . . . on another day . . .

What a superb day . . . up late, get over hangover during F1 . . . walk up the hills, sunny enough to chill out at the top, lounge in the sun, shoot some memory, fall asleep, and walk back down for a nice bottle of red and some nice food . . .

pity it's going to pish with rain all week . .

This shot looks way over saturated and contrasty to me. Maybe that is an issue of personal taste.

I agree, now that I'm at work on a different monitor . . . the sky looks blown out in places which it certainly isn't on my home monitor . . .

I use a plugin called velvia vision. works a treat for a lot of images not just landscape

Why not just use Levels/saturation/contrast/unsharp Mask in PS?

Martin.
