Being a bit of an old git I have about 1200 slides going back to 1977ish, I want to copy them to disc. What is the best way to do this?

Do I go to Jessops or Jacobs and get them to do it which beggars another question. Jessops charge £9.99 for the first 15 then, I think, 25p per slide thereafter, Jacobs quote me £7.99 to fill one disc, meaning £7.99 for about 100, I do not understand this at all. I suspect that the quality from this syatem is not as good as a scanner but, second question, is a scanner that much better?

Anybody done any of the above and what were the results?

Thanks.

I bought a good Minolta dedicated film/slide scanner. If you've got lots of good photos out of those 1200 it's probably worth doing it yourself as you'll have a bit more control over the scanning and resolution etc than if you send them off somewhere. However, be warned, it takes ages doing it yourself and to be honest, I'd rather pay and get someone else to do it! Alternative is to buy a scanner from ebay then resell it once you've done all your slides. Don't know what the quality of Jacob's and Jessops etc is but I can't imagine it's going to be worse than doing it yourself initially. Some places do give you options on the resolution they'll scan to (at differing prices).

Cirks,

Thanks. Ebay is my starting point and the Minolta seems a good bet. I know it takes time but, amongst those slides there will be some good'ens and some interesting ones so, I think that will be the route but I am still open to advice and, once copied I would sell on again, makes sense.
