Epson R1800 problem

All of a sudden the printer stops working and I get both red lights above the green power light on the control panel flashin simultaneously. Switch off and on the printer and after a few seconds they start flashing again and I can do nothing. The manual says the front cover is open but its not.
Any ideas?

open front cover and shut again.

I tried that first, also switched off printer , disconnected the usb , reset the machine, ran thru printer self test everything to no avail!

maybe somthing is not connecting as it should. if in doubt take it to a epson service centre

Is there anything on the contacts of the front cover? Could be dusty etc.

You sure you didn't run out of ink?

Doh!, I found the retainer for the ink cartridges was not clicked completely into place.
