I read many threads about them. That once you had one you couldn't live with out it and it would change your life. So I forced my sister to buy me one of these for christmas:

but I have to confess I'm still struggling with it. Is it because it is too small?

6 months on and the best I've managed so far is this:

So where am I going wrong?

maybe I should have labled this self portrait thread. It's a nikon d200 and the lens is a 80-400vr. Just in case you were wondering

I don't do any drawing but I do find using the pen tool much easier for making selections. Had to play around with the sensitivity settings at first both for the pad itself and within Photoshop. After that initial setting up though I've not had to change anything and its worked fine.

Fun is watching visiting friends try to use the pen like it was a mouse and wondering why the cursor keeps moving to the middle of the screen

in fairness that was my first try at drawing and i had just finished the last of several pints of Duvel...

funnily enough it does seem to have helped with my use of the tablet, it feels a lot more natural now. it seems practice and perseverance might be the key here!

i used to use one, until i lost the pen. I forced myself to use it for everything (unplugged the mouse) for a week or two, and after that it will feel as natural as using a normal mouse

From what I remember Ben, that's a pretty good likeness you've caught there.

That is a proper tablet. Mine is the cheapest in the market but it works wonders when you want to cut, paste, paint, design anything... Basically it is now my mouse for the laptop. Just designed my Xmas cards with it and they were easy peasy thanks to it

BTW, your "likeness" is quite cool though...

Like all tablets, you just have to keep taking them ...

I have one like yours and there is absolutely no contest for photo editing between it (even though it is nowhere near the top end stuff) and a mouse for editing photos.

I can't draw at the best of times so I would doubt of it would suddenly make me artisitically capable. So I haven't tried.
