I was looking to take a few pictures of the OH's craft stuff so that she can stick it on the net and show people. How would I go about taking the pictures to a high standard? I was thinking a plain cloth background, and two spotlights, or perhaps on a table against a wall. Any tips or or better ideas?
I certainly not a photography expert but from a web display POV think about the way the image is going to be used, is it just a thumbnail or small image against an item description to be added to a basket, or perhaps an image designed to market the product, ie make it more saleable?
In the first case I would have thought that the plain background and lots of light and lots of depth, if the latter then you need to put it into context to try and rouse emotions, picture on a wall, fabric on table, fireplace installed in nice room etc, and then your lighting will need to be more subtle.
Edited to add, what she selling btw?

As they're cards setting them on a mantlepiece might make a suitable background, otherwise try to find a complimentary colour for the back cloth. I'm not very keen on white backgrounds, especially for web-based images, as the white can appear to be too bright and rather dominates the subject.
