My 3 year old Canon S50 seems to be taking rather fuzzy pictures lately. Even in clear, bright daylight the images are a lot less "sharp" than they used to be. There are no obvious bad individual spots, seems to be all over the images. Having nicely cleaned all of the external bits I can get to (lense etc.) the problem remains. Is it possible that it's gotten some dust inside and that's messing things up? And if so is it easily fixed?

I'm reluctant to take it apart. I did that with my old Fuji (cleaning out sand after it was buried at the beach) and ended up zapping myself with the flash whilst I was poking about in there...

I'm not sure what the problem is (probably something to do the sensor) but it is possible that servicing will cost more than buying a new camera.

It's possible

I'm sure it's worth checking with Canon how much a service will cost you.

I've paid various amounts with Nikon gear (from nothing to £100), The only downside is it always seems to take them six weeks - i don't understand because at these costs they can never have anything apart for more than an hour....

The last time I had a Canon (slr) serviced was in the early 90's and it cost about £60. These days it's pretty easy to see whether it's going to be an economic goer.....
