Lovely cars!

My (french) assistant has one in black. And one of my wife's colleagues has three, including a decapotable and a Presidential version!

Good luck with the restoration! It will be worth it.

I've instructed the chap who is doing the work to take as many photos as he can during the restore...

For anyone who cares: The car is a 1970 D Super which is IMO the best of the bunch: 5 speed manual (instead of the semi auto, which is linked to the hydraulics: another thing to go wrong!) with the 2 litre carb engine (the fuel injected engines are a nightmare). Its also in pallas trim which means top spec thick carpets etc...

Interior is black leather including the door cards and new (400 quid!) headrests and is in timewarp condition.

The car originates from the south of france and as a result is completely rust free with a totally unmarked chassis (rust is by far the worst enemy of these cars), and the body work is actually very good.

Its not actually a restoration as such...im just getting it tidied up:

I couldnt find a black car (I think they look best) so I bought the best spec I could find and am having it sprayed..mine is white which is nasty.

All the brightwork has been stripped, and sent back to france to be reconditioned and rechromed. The exterior pallas trims are also brand new.

Boot has been relined

Full overhaul/serious servicing of all mechanical/hydraulic parts, including new hydraulic spheres and various engine bits i dont understand.

Im very relaxed about the whole thing as the chap who is doing it is a fanatic. When i went to see the car, after our initial discussions he had a stripped car there and showed me all the work invovled in preparing for the respray, and a car which has just been sprayed and completed, as well as examples of other restoration work he has done (he only does ds's) His attention to detail was mind boggling! When he pulled the dust cover off the car, I knew I had to have it!

When i took it out for a test I fell in love with it... the ride is like nothing else Ive ever experienced, and I find the looks actually quite intimidating in the flesh...its just a stunning piece of design.

I take delivery on the 7th August. Cant wait!

I'm thinking St.Tropez, or Monte Carlo in front of the Casino....or maybe even the "Tour Eiffal" as a backdrop in the evening...

I absolutely loved mine right up to the point I wrote it off...(they don't like being jumped over hump-back bridges BTW).

Martin.
