Anyone here got a Lomo? I fancy buying one to mess around with. The opportunities for unusual and spectacular shots seems quite good:

Which are you thinking of buying PoD? I've been considering one for ages but the range is massive and I've never really known what to go for...currently tempted by this beast! http://shop.lomography.com/shop/main.

In principle I like the idea of this lomography lark, but in practice I think for it to work you have to have a skillful eye for composition, but secretly pretend you took it as a "point and shoot from the hip honest guv"

Bit like le banana ds gravy's Thailand pics which he reckoned were snaps and I was jealous of cos they were bloody good.

I reckon dcw@pr's Venice pics from a while back fit in nicely with aspects of this philosophy.

The idea behind Lomography is not to produce perfect pictures. Its to capture, completely randomly, moments in life from any angle you choose. Think of it as a lucky dip of photography. You might shoot 5 rolls and only get 1 good exposure, but that exposure could be outstanding - and it would be purely by chance.....

I'm thinking of buying a basic LC-A from a reputable Ebay seller, a few rolls of film, and going out to experiment.

I might buy a Holga instead though, as they're cheaper.

My lovely and wonderful EX-girlfriend (I dumped her btw) was into Lomography.

I could not really see the point of it. The cameras are dirt cheap and they look it really.

The shots they take are a bit crap looking by normal standards too!

Not sure if I totally missed the "back to basics" point of it, but if this was the point of it the surely they should all be using pinhole cameras and smoking weed!?

Sorry, i appear to have offended you.

I just don't see the point in lomo, i have a camera that can take good photos so i don't see why i would want another camera in order to make the same photos look worse.

Lomo originated from people taking relatively good photos with bad cameras as that's all they had (hence its origins with russian cameras) and to me that's perfectly valid. My problem with it is that now it seems to have been hijacked by people using it as a way of disguising mediocre photos as some kind of art form.

Well thats fair enough, I happen to think that photography isnt only about good framing and technical expertise. Theres a time and a place for everything, and it seems to me that Lomography (as its known) is an interesting method of capturing the moment. Theres a very famous photo about 70 years old, of a mother and daughter on an American train, the photo was taken illicitly with a hidden camera on the photographer's lap. Pity I can't find it.

Anyhow, I've ordered a Holga from Ebay.
