Can someone please help me with the custom white balance setting...

I am shooting many pictures for a website (just products) and want them to look as good as I can!

Would ajusting the white balance sort out things like getting the background brillant white instead of the dull off white I am getting atm? Do I have to set it with a white peice of card or something? (Havent a clue ! )

Any advice??

Ps am using a canon 350D, 18-55 standard lense and also a home made light box!!!

Shoot Raw and adjust in post processing - you can always apply the cameras sugested white balance.

If your in a light box then the white balance should be fixed no?

You can use a grey card to set white balance (18% grey I think) pringles tops are supposed to be about right (or make/buy one) and set that as a fixed white balance.

ideally an 18% grey card.

Then, just for good measure, photograph the card at the start and finish of the shoot and you'll have the added back up of a reference to adjust WB automatically on conversion......

Thanks guys but....

Excuse me for being a newbie lol How do I set the white balance. I have the custom WB setting on the camera but how do I set it??

TBH I havent got a clue

I dont really want to shoot raw purely because of the time processing etc. The pictures dont have to be spot on but I want the background to be white at least.

Photograph your 'white' object so that it fills the center circle in the viewfinder (setting the focus to manual can help here as the picture does not have to be in focus). Then, go into the menu and select 'custom white balance'. This will then allow you to select the photo you just took as the white balance reference. Then, change your camera's white balance mode to custom.
