Hi,
I've just ordered a Canon IXUS 800 IS and now need to order a memory card, but which sort

I know it takes SD cards and have found SanDisk 2Gb SD Ultra II cards on eBay, but I have also noticed Ultra III which are faster (and obviously more expensive ), will these make a difference with video capture or are the Ultra IIs fast enough?

The SanDisk web site also lists Ultra II plus which are lower power consumption. Anyone got one of these? will these work with the IXUS range?

Thanks

Podie

Check out www.mymemory.com ... often as cheap as eBay, but without the hassle...

The difference with the faster cards is the speed at which they write the files... in my experience faster cards are worth that bit extra... although you'll probably see little between an Ultra II and an Extreme III in the camera... on the PC is a different matter though.

I use the 2GB Ultra II in my 800IS and have never had any issues with it and think that it is more than fast enough. Shot a lot of video with it and never had a problem.

I don't believe there are any cameras using SD that have a write speed higher than the 9MB/sec of the Ultra II card, so any advantage with an Extreme III would only be seen in the future. Even on a computer, there isn't much of a difference between the two, depending on the system you have.
