Anyone else find it difficult taking snaps rather than photos these days. I went on a stag do to Amsterdam at the weekend and took my old Sony 2mp camera. Found it quite fustrating not having any control at all over the shots. Then you forget until you look at the images just how good the quality of shots from DLSRs. Shutter lag was very annoying at the theme park we went to aswell.

Here are the results if anyone is interested....

I agree. But in a sense, stag do's perhaps shouldn't be preserved in crystal clarity.....

I find that photography is all too often forgotten once the beer kicks in. We went on one last weekend and decided that we couldn't be bothered with cameras other than phone ones.

On my last day of senior high school, I returned to the lost arts of snapshots... And while the photos weren't all that great in and of themselves, I've found they tell a story much better than the occasional DSLR shots, and people tend to be more candid and a P&S camera tends to be more compact... And like I said, you can see the progression of the day/event if you take a sufficient amount of pictures...

got a fujipix f10, it has an almost silent shutter, so quiet that can be talking to someone and take a photograph and they not realised i had taken anything, also does short movies, great in low light.... 500 shot capacity and so can afford to get a few shots of the floor, ceiling etc and not worry about it.

missing classic shots or only having thumbnail size photos are not the same...

I did have a great little Canon Ixus V that was perfect for nights out. It's given up the ghost now though

I love snaps:

But then I don't know the difference between a photo and a snap . . . it's all the same to me . . . gotta be fast and easy.

I reckon a snap is when you don't expect to see something but have your camera with you - and you point, click and hope.

I find that if I think about a picture when taking it they often aren't as good as if I'd just picked up the camera and snapped away.

But then on other occasions I watch the weather forecast the night before, get up at 04:00, drive 60+ miles, set the camera up, wait an hour for the light to be right (whilst being bitten by midges), and then take the photo... that IMHO isn't a snap... more of a pain in the ar5e actually

Used to do that in the 80s . . . but it isn't as rewarding as just snap away . . . I'm a Martin Parr fan as you will understand.

My wife does a good snap too:

Eating the ice-creams OF my daughters . . . and thus avoiding ice everywhere. Did that a lot last holidays . . .

I've been thinking a lot about this...I emailed some chums my photos from africa and they said "how do we know you were there and didnt just nick the photos from the internet? Where are the holiday snaps?" I don't actually have any holiday photos as such at all except one of me (looking ugly and serious) and babs (looking the opposite) and the limelight stolen by our rental mk1 golf!

Unfortunately my only cameras are 1d's of some description which cant be pocketed. Perhaps when i finish selling body parts to pay for the frogwagon I'll get a point and shoot!

Probably not, but the bonnet was white so they would never know....same trousers incidentally!
