lowepro slingshot 100
Discussion
So I have a super new 350d and a couple of lens, and a battery grip and some other stuff, so I need a bag (of course).
My last SLR bag was a pain in the neck, overly large, square, uncomfortable, great big oblong thing (very 1980's).
So I had a dig about and found this lowepro slingshot 100
I'll be able to get all my kit in, plus another lens and a flash (I doubt I'll buy more than that for a while) and some other bits and bobs, so it looks ideal, however I've never had lowepro before.
Anyone got one? Are they any good?
TIA

I'd go for the 200...

You can then pack a raincoat and packed lunch. You know that in 6 months you'll have more stuff to put in there too.
Martin.
PS - looks good

My considerably better half has just got one of these, its a pretty good all round bag. its supposed to take an SLR with lens fitted, wut wont fit her 28-300 tamron, just too long. it does fit easily in the space next to the SLR "bay"
the little pockets for gubbins, batteries and cards are pretty good (so much so she actually leaves her handbag behind
)
The swing around method that brings the top of the bag handy is a great idea but the strap arrangement is a bit odd with a diagonal and a holding strap from the rear and then diagnoally up to meet the main strap.
She loves it, not big enough for me so I'll stick to the Tamrac backpack.
(also not big enough for her long lens so guess who gets to lug it )

this weekend i bought a new camera bag for the same reasons as you.
i went into my local jessops with my kit and had a good play around with the bags on display. in the end i came to the conclusion that i wanted the lowepro orion trekker as it fitted all my kit and had space in the top for day stuff.
i went home and looked on the jessops website and found this:
www.jessops.com/Store/s33270/0/Backpacks/Lowepro/Orion-Trekker-Mkii-(Black)/details.aspx?&comp=n
which is exactly the bag i wanted but for £9 cheaper than it was in store (also a few pounds cheaper than anywhere else online.
plus if you look at the line at the top:
"Web offer price valid in-store with a print-out of this page only."
so i printed out that page and went down to the same jessops store and got the bag for £9 less than they normally sell it!
for once jessops comes out well!

I have the 'reporter 400' and it's turned out a bit strange... It'd be very good if you wanted to transport boxes of shoes or house bricks, but it's not quite right for cameras.
Before you ask, it seemed right at the time with two big SLRs, but they used to fight over space.
No point to this post except to say that quality of Lowepro is excellent... just make sure you get the one that suits.
I now carry house bricks in mine.

My main problem with most of these bags is that they all look like they would go perfectly with Sandals and socks, and a very bushy beard.
I want a stylish, discreet, functional shoulder bag, not a neoprene behemoth with webbing and straps all over it.
No offence intended to anyone who has one of these, I have a lowepro myself and it's great other than the looks!

I use four bags. One form-fitting bag for just the camera and kit lens (or other smaller lens), and I keep an extra battery and extra memory in a pocket... I have a larger bag that will hold the camera plus a long lens, plus extra battery and memory. I have a bag that's big enough for the camera and short lens, plus teleconverter, two extension tubes, and extra battery and memory, plus cleaning supplies and battery charger. Then I also have a backpack to just throw everything into...

Yes thats a fair point, I'll probably buy another bag at somepoint just to fit the camera with lens on it.

I just find it easier to be able to grab whatever bag I need for that particular day of shooting, so I can carry the most minimal amount of bulk as I can. I learned that important lesson when I carried the third bag I mentioned plus a duffle bag through Bermuda all day in the middle of summer... I think the only reason I wasn't mugged was because everyone thought I was insane.
I quite fancy the 200 but not got the cash sadly. I currently use a mini treker classic. gets my 100-400 attached to camera in there along with 4 other lenses, flash, batteries yada yada yada. the mini treker AW is another good bag. best to try and see what you like in jessops then order on line like I did lol

Crumpler

Got a crumpler geekstar today. Took all my gear and went into Bristol cameras to make sure it would all fit!
The blurb states it will fit two bodies and six lenses - not sure about this, as it only just accomodates my one body and four lenses and flash, so when it refers to bodies/lenses I think it's refering to small primes rather than big expensive zooms.
Nevertheless it's a nice looking bag, and seems pretty well built.
