Well I spent some money on this week's copy of Amateur Pornographer. Got a supplement where they compare:

Canon 30D
Nikon D70s
Olympus
Sony Alpha

Given the usual sort of stuff you get in mags these days I have been very impressed by the whole article.

For anyone thinking of buying one of these it's got to be useful. In fact for anybody who already has one it's a good read.

It's not spoiling it to say that the overall impression was that there's a gnat's fag paper between them. However, as many of us realise, they all deliver in subtley different ways, for example the Nikon approach to exposure, the differences in colour balance and what conditions are more likely to produce relatively pronounced noise. The varieties of which doesn't mean that one way is necessarily right. What it does highlight is that it's well worth understanding what your camera's going to do when it scoops up that random bag of photons and you are expecting a beautiful shot!

But get your hands on the mag (or at least the supplement)

I used to buy sooooo many mags... evo.. computer ones etc.. everything I was into... but all the info is on the net mostly.. almost 90% before mags can print it. But there is still something about sitting down for a good read.

It's the only magazine I buy now.

I don't buy any mags - can't afford to

Bro in law gets PP on subscribtion and tend to read others in supermarket but like you say most information is on the web first.

out of interest what did they think of the sony alpha, DP reivew compares it to the D200 and there is not much in it for image quality on RAW photos
