Had a little practice with the 'sports' program on the D50 today, not sure who took the shots as my partner and I were both shooting, some of my favourites, rest in a link below.

Are you 2 talking to each other on PH from within the same house!? How cute!

Great shots guys. Really clear and sharp. The resizing thing is a bummer, but if you click the image on the web page then it gets a bit bigger in a new window.

What lens did you use Di/matt?

yeah, conversation has gone out the window now we have two computers, we just email now

used the 70-300 (sigma)
luckily it was a lovely sunny day over this way so there was no problems using it on auto focus- usually its pretty slow on auto on 300mm (most of the time it was nearer 300mm)
having said that, its incredibly easy to use on the 'sports' setting, as the focus is accurate and the fast shutter speed cuts down on blur, which is the usual problem I have working on 300mm

Great captures, but I think the images are way too over-sharpened.

1-4 were done on the 'one step fix'
the last is standard, yet it still looks sharpened?

Those are great - Holme Pierrepont (sp ?) ? There is a bit too much sharpening but they've really captured the action.

Your in camera sharpening is set at 'Hard'. This may be an effect of the sports programme.

Holme Pierrepont - is that the place on the kinda polluted river/canal ?

Anyways . . . 4th one is a canoe, the rest are kayaks ;-) . . . yeah I'm a pedant . . .

Watersports like this really are photogenic ;-)

Used to be a competant kayaker myself . . . here on a nice wee grade 5 in Austria . . .

Terrible pic taken by 3rd party using disposable waterproof camera . . . brings back lots of memories of an intense time . . .

Its the place up in Nottingham, National water sports centre.
Our pics were taken at the Northampton Canoe and Kayak club (nene whitewater centre)
All the canoes/kayaks were the same playboat type, only difference I could see was that the guy in the 4th pic was using a single blade rather than a double one, looked good fun though your pic looked a bit more extreme

It's under 'optimising image' on the shooting menu. I'm not sure if you can adjust it when in Vari-Programs though as I'm a Canon user although I've used a Nikon a few times.
