For those of you already signed up at shutterstock (there must be a few of you, ive had a dozen people sign up under me, and PH is just about the only place Ive been posting the url) ...How about a competition chaps! Lets choose a subject. And agree a submission date, and see whose photo sells best.

The subject can be anything... piece of fruit, stationary, whatever. As long as we all have access to one at a reasonable price.

Comp can start later this year. Who'se interested?

Just waiting for Poah to turn up then

No doubt he'll be up for shooting some ass, head to head

First we need to agree a subject. Or three subjects. To be submitted to shutterstock. And we all upload on the same day - how about Friday 1st September? That gives us 3 weeks to find and shoot our subjects.

Take several shots to ensure none of us get our photo rejected, and do your processing well in advance, following which we will all agree (and use) the exact same keywords to make it fair.

We will therefore need to shoot the same subjects, which need to be kept simple, ie "an apple" and not "a salad with apple" so we all have similar shots with compatible/relevant keywords. Lets say we did choose "apple" then you can add other things into the photo, but you wont be able to use keywords which relate to those other things (unless everyone else is able to add the keywords too).

We can decide which photos will be judged as the winning ones based on its position in the site for the keyword we will agree in advance. This will give us an accurate idea of the winner as (The "most popular" search criteria is based on how many sales the item has had, divided by the amount of time the photo has been online)

Pics to be judged 1 month later.

Might be wise to get ideas from current best sellers to ensure we dont pick subjects which arnt going to sell

No super macro shots, as I dont have a macro lens

And I think thats it. Who else is taking part?

Subject suggestions? We need 3 subjects, I suggest we use "apple" as one of them. Out of the 65 thousand results for "food" there is a solitary apple in the top 50.

Dont we do enough car shooting already

Houses hmm... Dont have access to any nice ones (and dont want to the hassle that comes with shooting other peoples)

Faces... I dont know any especially photogenic faces. Possibly the hardest subject to find. If everyone else wants to shoot faces go for it, they sell well. I'll be out of that round though.

(just my 2 cents you understand)

Poah, onion sounds good

Took this one last week

I suggested those as I thought they'd be likely things that people would search for.

Good suggestions. Shooting a face requires more skill (and faces) than I have though. If anyone else wants to shoot cars, say so and we'll shoot cars.

So its
1) onions
2) cars (maybe) - must be taken this month though
3) ?

Dare I suggest food, anyone? A nice steak with something praps?

Not even close to enough. For a petrolheads website the lack of automotive photography here amazes me!

Interesting, may be tempted to play! Not sure about a fully prepared meal though because (a) I almost never eat steak at home (b) its then not just about the picture, also the presentation. Maybe thats the point!!!???

We are all stunned and frightened like timid sheep into absolute silence by your shockingly brilliant talent in that field (Im not suggesting you got your talent out in a field of sheep, you understand). And we're far too afraid (and sensible) to even contemplate the very notion of competition with you in our midst. I *cough* speak for myself.

I dont remember the details, but one of the stock sites removed a load (all of?) its cars last month, I think shooting them (even as editorial) is becoming a risky business as far as commercial stock sales go.

Do we have another vote for cars then, or not? (we've got 3 subjects to shoot, afterall) And is that a yay or nay from you re: the steak?

Lets have another handful of suggestions anyway, see who prefers what.

Tongue firmly in cheek oui? I'm scared to post because I cant possibly scale the dizzy heights of our esteemed Gravynoiremaster Come to think of it, I haven't posted anything motoring related for ages and its not 'coz I aven't done any! In fact I've been too busy working on the backlog of images I've got. I plan to swarm PH with Cerb, GT3RS, BMW, Exige, etc images soon! I'll go with anything for the stock photography, although I'm on holiday from 15th (assuming the flight isn't cancelled!).

Good luck. They key is to submit only 9, which gives the reviewer the impression you have confidence. By submitting 10 you are almost certainly doomed. Nothing can help that now...
