This past weekend I went to the annual Das Awkscht Fescht, which basically consisted of about one thousand cars of varying ages and makes (practically anything more than 10 years old), but with a focus toward American cars.

Due to the tight packing of the cars, the less-than-flattering lighting, people walking around, and my accidentally leaving the D70 set at ISO 400, the photos aren't really an example of my best work. But I figured I'd post them anyway.

This year's theme: Woodies

I can identify with that. I end up too many times with just a "record" of a car rather than either the atmosphere of the event or some of the detail which other PHers seem to manage

I photo'd my own car last weekend only to find I had done that standard "wide-angle-vertical-format" thing down the bonnet!

Like your Woodies shots most!

In two of the shots or so you can see where I tried to blur the background out of focus a little to emphasize the car, but after I did that twice I realized how much of a pain it was an how unrewarding the final product was. I took a total of 200 shots or so, but didn't bother processing most of them because the background was just too distracting.

Though I did find using wide angle to be much easier than normal focal lengths, as I was able to get closer to cars and I didn't need to get people out of as large of an area when I could get an entire car in the frame from 3 or 4 feet away rather than the 8 to 10 feet needed in previous years.

Edited to add: this is the first time I've used Curves to increase contrast and boost color for a series of photos as described in www.kenrockwell.com/tech/ps-contrast.htm
