Nice bald eagle and vulture head portraits.

That owl is a bit strange, looks a bit Julian Clary with the red eye shadow!

Seriously though this one could have been improved by shooting from a lower angle if possible and getting the owl to look straight at you, maybe even a dash of fill flash to get a catch light in its eyes. They have such wonderful faces the straight on approach is reat for these.

Easy to say could have been improved by **** but shooting these is pretty difficult if you are in a crowded public place.

Cheers

Nice shots Beano, got any tech info? The "view exif" thingy I have doesn't work.

Can you remember what the tech info was?

They look a tad over sharpened to me (which is emphasising the noise too)

Martin.

Thanks - good points folks.

Yes the owl especially, it was difficult to get down to because it was a bit of a scrum - temporary fencing, kids and the handler in the way.

You start to notice the noise don't you, even at 200 ISO? That's Nikon for you! They range between F2.8 and F3.3 on a 180mm Nikon with between about 1/1000 and 1/4000, WB set for cloudy.

Instead of my usual method of sharpening I did a really Q&D Unsharpen Mask, without much thought, and I probably need to work on my UM skills - so I take that point right on the chin!
