As I understand it you are not selling the whole rights to the image, but in effect licensing it to one person so the same image can be sold many times over.
I would imagine that witht he advent of digital photography and the internet that there is mass oversupply of stock images and hence such prices are a true market price. I would think you would have to have a pretty special image (or immediately newsworthy) to warrant breaking such pricing structures.

Well done poah (and now platinum)
and lol mr noble
Havnt seen the thread until now. Tits and ass sell well, Im interested in following your progress with indivudal sales compared to your other stuff.
Main reasons are: Because its fun. I have a headstart on poah, and in sporting oneupmanship I can brag that Ive sold more photos than he has
The industry is moving that way, ie designers are buying less images at $100 a pop from the traditional stock libraries - microstock is getting bigger every day. Egomeister made some valid points, one of which is that copyright remains with the owner. Dreamstime offer whatever you want (you set the price) for transfering ownership to the buyer. Recommended price is $350. The reasoning behind the pricing is of course the Internet. We have millions of graphic and web designers worldwide now, who are all buying images for personal use at prices they couldnt before afford. Just as there are hundreds of thousands of photographers (like me) who otherwise wouldnt have made a penny from their home grown amateur portfolio.
forgot to add... there are normal gallery sites where you upload your best photos, which people can buy as prints. And pricing (again) can be set by the user. One of my friends uploaded a couple of photos, set high prices, and someone came along and bought one for $100. If you own the copyright, you can upload your photos anywhere and everywhere.

i don't get it. why on earth would you give a shot away so cheaply?
Ive only been going a few months now, and Ive made $170 uploading my pics to three stock sites (Shutterstock Bigstock and Dreamstime) selling over 500 photos on shutterstock alone. Main reasons are: Because its fun. I have a headstart on poah, and in sporting oneupmanship I can brag that Ive sold more photos than he has
