After adding up the replacement cost of a D200, D70, SB800 and a few lenses and associated bits and bobs i've gone and got myself a bit worried. The home contents insurance covers my kit up to the value of £1500 but that isn't going to be enough - plus I want to take at least the D70 to Turkey with me in a fortnight and they might make me put it in my suitcase, and/or it might get nicked - so, where's the best place to get my kit insured? I don't sell my images but I do try to (local pub has a few up and im applying to a stock library or two) so I need to compare Pro insurance with Amateur.

Any ideas chaps?

Ta!

My home insurance covers individual items outside the house up to £1000 each with no maximum limit on a claim

That's not quite enough to cover the D200, 28-70 or 80-400 but it's close enough that I can live with it. Might be worth chatting to your home insurer to increase your cover. I think it added a couple of quid a month onto my policy.

I've used these for a few years but I don't have any seperate home contents insurance eek

www.goldenvalleyinsurance.co.uk/photoins.htm

Costs me just over £200 for £5000 of equipment cover, all documented with serial numbers. Have had a couple of claims over the years and had no problems. You can cover particular items you take abroad for a small extra premium. You just phone up and tell them what you are taking and to where. I also have my computer and AV stuff included.

Would probably be much cheaper to combine with a home contents policy.

I too combine with home. I had specialist camera insurance for a few years and it cost a bloody fortune. Unless you need 'next day replacement' type insurance for a job, I'd go for increased home insurance.

So do we - always very helpful with changes, etc.

I had a claim through them years ago for a dropped camera snd they were totally OK + the repair got sorted as quickly as I could have expected.

I used these guys - cost was pretty good considering the value of kit insured, and they had less exclusions than the others I looked at - especially when in transit.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Id prefer to just keep it in with the home contents - but £1500 is the maximum they'll go to on photographic gear
