It's only just occurred to me really rolleyes , but in the move from 35mm to APS-C sized sensor, we all need bigger hoods!

scratchchin

180mm has a built in hood - bit of a modification required.... smash

85mm has a nice solid screw in jobbie, but could go for something more suitable for a 135

45mm has it's own special one - might leave that alone

20mm is the real culprit though. Needs something more akin to a 28 mm hood, bayonet fitting if possible - the original is a complete waste of plastic!

What's everyone else done????

Course if you're a Canon-fodder-feeler you can move along right now, this won't affect you... go on... nothing to see here...

The lenses behave in exactly the same way as they do with a full frame camera so the hoods need to be exactly the same too. Any changes will likely cause vignetting.

Leave them as they are.

Ron, you'll be pleased to hear that the hood on the lovely new lens that you should receive before 1pm tomorrow (if you didn't get my e-mail) will work fine on your camera.

I hope you're pleased with it.

Really, matthew h? The angle of view from a lens attached to a 1.6 factor sensor DSLR is significantly narrower than that from the same lens attached to a full frame sensor DSLR. This means that one can attach a longer hood without suffering vignetting but further reducing the risk of lens flare. If this were not the case it would not be common practice to replace the hood shipped with the Canon 17-40mm L lens with the one designed for the 24mm 1.4 L. Lurking somewhere on the interweb is a detailed list compiled by someone with too much time on their hands showing a great many similar substitutions.

Sigma 12-24mm effectively comes with 2 hoods, a petal one for us on full frame cameras, and a cylindrical one with a filter thread cut into the end that slides over the top of the petal. You can leave the cylindrical one in place when using it on a camera with an APS-C sized sensor and get no vignetting, but don't leave it on when using a full frame machine !

[blush]

Apologies, I think I may have got myself confused there.

Please ignore my previous, incorrect post
