Im sure whilst browsing around in recent months, I saw something with 8x zoom and a 10mp sensor.

Does anyone know if any small pocket sized cameras which are extraordinarily powerful especially in the zoom dept?

Don't forget with compact cameras, the 8x only refers to the widest focal length. If that is 20mm then the 8x makes it a 20-160mm which isn't that much of a zoom.

In context - my 80-400 lens is "only" a 5x zoom. You get the idea!

I'd also be wary of such high resolution sensors - the more resolution they cram onto a tiny sensor, the more noise will likely result.

The 4x zoom on my IXUS 800 is pretty handy, but only the equivalent of 135mm on the long end.

Pretty good pictures from something VERY small for when I don't want to lug around and SLR though...

I keep tempting myself to get a Ricoh GR fixed focal length. It's got a cracking lens on it.

Its just a shame it isnt a great camera, the review is far from good by the looks of it

Still, nearly 400mm from an ultra compact, I wonder if we'll see more of this in the future.
