Flash would have given some life to the face (with nice catch-light in his eyes) and removed the shadow across his face. Is that the shadow of yourself on his body? Then I would have repositioned. And larger aperture would have blurred the background a bit more. Good low angle though.

Lovely lawn, mines nowhere near that green!

Only joking... What a good looking young chap, but it is a shame about the shadows.

You might try lighten shadows filter in photoshop, then remove the excess noise if you're going to print it. You might also try shooting with a larger aperture to blow out the background a little more next time. Good looking kid

thanks for your great comments! I have said it before and i'll say it again - Im only 15 and i am a really ken photographer. I am leaving school soon and im unsure as of what to do. Should i take a degree in photography? Is it worth it? I need some answers to these questions as i need that final push! Your comments help me develop my pictures to make them the best possible standard that i can have and i am so grateful for it.

Thanks Guys!

I like the expression on the boy's face, he's absorbed in what he's doing rather than what you're doing - so you've got a portrait of a person being themselves and not posing for the camera. I also like the angles of the fences etc. in the background, particularly the symmetry of the blue and white areas, which make it a stronger image. I agree with the other comments though and also have to add that its a pity the fingers of his right hand have gone missing.

Its great that you're shooting at 15. I started in earnest this year myself, love to, and like others I only wish I was shooting at your age. Gonna be really patronising now, so get that pinch of salt ready! But if photography is a hobby you are really keen on, it 'may' be an idea to keep it as that - a hobby which you can enjoy for the rest of the many days ahead of you. The commercial photographers (the marketplace is flooded) do loose some of the passion when shooting evolves from a hobby to a profession, especially when their lives and families depend upon it.

One of the reasons Im not shooting weddings (for fun and to learn more) is because I know whilst I would learn, grow and become better, working commercially would reduce the fun factor and could possibly ruin a hobby I love.

All just in my opinion of course.

90 seconds later - its overly processed I know...

Is that just a 'one click fix' in photoshop?

Pretty much, yeah. 'lighten shadows' and 'noise removal' as I suggested. With wand > greener/bluer sky and grass adjustments. Skin looks a little better after processing than it did before too, if you dont mind the the over processing.

Edited to add the an unsharp mask too (30)
