Looking to get one of these for the folks for xmas so they can put their digital pictures on it without taking them to get printed.

Anyone got one, if so, which one and what do you think of them?

I seem to remember the gadget show (Channel 5) did a piece about them a couple of weeks ago. Maybe have a look on the channel 5 website?

The Gadget show did do a test on them and their conclusion was that they are a bit rubbish and way over priced. For the price of most of the crappy frames you could buy a full blown pc.

Not worth imo

The phillips one was the only one they recommended. Have a hunt on their website.

I have one (bought it a few years back) - They are a rip off, but bloody useful If you have aged parents without PCs. My frame is wireless (and resides with my old ma) so when I visit I zap a bunch of new photos onto the frame from my laptop. Considering she has the attention span of a goldfish it keeps her amused for hours.

Can't advise on the current crop I'm afraid, but wireless is the way to go if it's not too expensive.

edited to add:

I also built this into my new house.. an old PC (too slow for anything else) sits in a cupboard on the other side of the wall, and the (nearly as old) LCD has a frame sitting over the top of it (cardboard insert has slipped and LCD is showing it's knickers here)... anyway, over 1000 pics change every 10 secs, so you hardly ever see the same one (I know, I should get out more)

The gadget show did conclude that the best thing to do was.................

Get an old PC (less than £50 from a 2nd hand shop) and get a 15/17/19" lcd screen (now very cheap)

Take the screen to a picture framer and get him to frame it as he would a painting in what ever style you like.

Set up the pc to run slideshows and hang the screen on the wall.

Very nifty idea and by far the best example available.

@GetCarter, is the ventilation ok for an LCD in that sort of frame. It looks a fantastic idea and its just saved my old tower from going to the skip.

No problem at all. The frame just fits over the top of the LCD (a completely separate fix) and there is a gap 2mm ish at the back - which lets the heat out. I had one in my last house for four years and it never burnt down (although I found keeping old PC's on for extended periods was a bit too much for them - so from time to time works... best gag is to take loads of pics of pissed relatives on Christmas day and load them up to without telling them on boxing day hehe

Dammit Mr C, you keep nicking my ideas...move to Scotland, build house, buy Aston, now this.

Tch..

(actually in all nerdy seriousness, I'm going to be putting touchscreen's in with dumb terminals (running a webbrowser) for an in house media setup I'm writing. The photo rotation idea is going to be the equivalent of a screen saver )

I have the Philips photoframe and think it's great. You load the pics onto a memory card, the frame loads it into memory and then runs from internal memory. It's limited to about 50 pics I think but I never have that many on it anyway.
