My Canon i9950 is not working and the error message comes up 'Printer head fault'.
Now I suspect it's because I used a third party ink and not a Canon ink.

Might this be the case? and If so is there anyway apart from replacing the head of fixing it?

I had a problem with my printer heads. Despite lots of head cleaning and head alignment I still had faulty prints. I rang HP technical support and they instructed me on how to run an advanced check which, if my memory serves me well, involved downloading some information and an advanced test of sorts. Unfortunately it never solved the problem so HP replaced the heads gratis. Replacing them was pretty straight forward. The first question they asked was, "Have you used a non HP cartridge?" The second was, "Have you replaced the cartridge, as the one that you are using may be faulty." I have only ever used HP cartridges and had actually tried two cartridges (V. expensive test) and still the problem persisted.

Do you print colour regularly? You need to use the colour ink regularly to avoid the heads drying out.

The Canon heads are user changeable, if you had it from new you would have fitted them before putting the first cartridges in.

http://self-service.canon-europe.com/ should be helpful.

Update:

This is it

Mine was already fitted. I just had to load the ink cartridges ?
Had a quick look last night and can't see how it's removed.
