Just finished making my 7 minute "PH Chateau Run" movie in windoze movie maker.

Its a 75MB WMA file. How do I compress it to go onto the web?

Also, can I convert it to a Mprg or other file type so mac folks can play it too?

Thanks

How long is it? The simple way would be to upload it to YouTube. So long as its less than 10 minutes long that is.

You could also reduce the resolution, and upload it to PH TV.

Windows Moviemaker will do this - use the 'save movie file' option and the wizard lets you select a file size you want to compress to.

What Roy says. Just 'save to my computer' then in the pull down options, choose the compression/size.

Regarding MPEG - Movie Maker will only let you save as an AVI or a WMV. But if you have quicktime (free from the Mac site I think) you can open the file and save as MPEG (IIRC). If not - I'm sure there will be loads of free software to convert.

Its about 6 minutes long and 75mb.

I was not sure if it would play for all to see on PH if it was a wmv file.

I'll try to save as a smaller file.

I hope you all like it.

I really recommend you tube as a way to share these things. You can upload in most common formats and it recompresses the file and streams it so pretty much anyone can watch it. I shot a completely random film on my Fuji S602Z and with a bit of editing put it up on You Tube. You get feedback, stats on how many views and no hosting problems.

Here's my little film www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQTbP9YxJqY showing the biodiesel heater we're going to use this winter to keep warm.

Sorry to continue guys. I'm now nearing "wrist slitting" point!! banghead

So. I opened the project in WMMaker again and saved for the web, it took its 10 minutes to save it again, this time at 516kbps, at the end it wanted me to upload it to a windoze site straight away, there was no other option so I hit cancel and now can't find the new movie on my PC anywhere. (been searching for it for 20 mins!)

Quicktime won't open WMV files, realplayer and Win Media player don't allow you to re-save stuff and I am lost for the answer!!

If I just try to upload the full thing onto PH, will it resize it for me so it doesn't take you lot months to stream it?

Steve, I'm now going to try your converter link. (this is why I wanted to stick to stills.) weeping

OK, uploading it to PH won't resize a movie, only specific video hosting sites like You Tube are capable of doing that.

There is a free utility called Virtualdub which can resize and recompress video between different formats, but it's pretty hardcore to use, so I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie user.

The other alternative is not to use Windows Movie Maker.. it's a bit like a river dwelling fish common in the UK (Carp).

Edited to add:

And the reason why you're not trying You Tube is?
