Id like to try and learn a few things from the pro's - are there any well known professional food photographers who have books I should be considering to buy before making a semi-random selection from amazon's cybershelves?

No need. Just get yourself a suitable camera, like my Pentax Optio S5i, which has a "Food" subject setting. Can't go wrong.

Perfectly delicious results every time. Hands it to you on a plate. I was bowled over.

This bloke, Lou Manna seems to have a well respected book on amazon.co.uk.

Just googled about and the book has good reviews from amazon.com. Only one on amazon.co.uk but it seems to have gone down well in America.

As I say, not personal expirence but have a gander Bob.

I got some great glistening cowshite photos this week, admitedly they lacked steam, but that must count for something, shirley.

Just what I was after, thanks! His photos are as impressive as his client list. I wonder how much the top food photogs earn each year (not that Id want to do it full time, I wouldnt (and couldnt if I wanted to, which is the more valid point).

Ive been flipping through it some more, it really must be the best food photography book ever aimed especially at digital users. Highly recommended to anyone with a passing interest in shooting food
