Thanks chaps.

Right place right time - decent camera and a .75 ND filter. Nature did the rest.

So the colour separation in the left of the panorama is indeed a rainbow and not some sort of filter/lens induced colour separation or a PS plugin?

Don't know about reaching out and touching the water though. One of the locals seems to be able to walk on it. (Photographically speaking.)

Great images as always. clap

Ta Ms S

One will do you. Cokin do a system - all you need is a ND grad filer (get a fairly dark one), a filter holder and a ring that fits to the holder the size of your lens. About £25 the lot IIRC. Then just align the grad so that it sits over (stops down) the sky... hey presto - no more white over exposed skys.

If you want to spend 6 times that amount buy a Lee system. They are optically much better but silly money.

Thanks for the info! Really, only about £25? I was just on the Warehouse Express site, just for research purposes of course and discovered the adapter ring was about £12 and a Cokin filter was about £46? I think I might've been looking at the wrong thing, what do you reckon?

Oh. Or maybe I was looking at the wrong site. Any recommendations?

Still not got around to trying out grads - how do you cope with mountains? Overlap somewhere and deal with later?

£40 for the holder plus three ND grads here, so £25 for the holder plus one seems realistic.

The grad is pretty kind (read subtle) and one just sides it up and down (or even covering a corner) to suit. Almost every pic I have with a sky in shot ... I use a grad. Just evens out the light so the camera doesn't overexpose sky/underexpose land. (Cameras are bloody stupid really... My brain does it automatically - mind you I have less memory).

Yeah I'm familiar with idea (used "regular" NDs for water shots and whatnot) just suddenly occurred to me that grads are kind of reliant on a flat horizon

Although of course, you can rotate them too - didn't think of that banghead

It's funny because the sky in the water doesn't whiteout/over-expose, but the filter brings the sky down to the level of the reflection... pretty cool and interesting how it just balances out!

Nice shots by the way

Just sold me on the idea of graduated lens filters
