Im hooked
the next thing I need is a larger screen, what should I look for when deciding on a new monitor?
please explain resolution, and contrast ratio as I rightly or wrongly have been looking at these for comparison.
does an LDC TV make a good monitor.

I'm changing to see my photos in more detail on screen to view and edit

My budget is £500

it depends on how serious you are about your images. for the lower end of the market (tft) an eizo lz88 will do the job, spend a few hundred more and get a LaCie 319. personally for just £500 i would see if you can find a large eizo crt left in a corner of a warehouse somewhere.

I've been lookig at the monitors and the EIZO S2000 seems to be suitable
here
it has a 1600 x 1200 resolution, the settings on my computer go to a maximun of 1280 x 1024
what are the implications here? will I not get better than 1280 x 1024 or will the new monitor change the computer settings?

I did lots of research and ended up with a NEC 1990SXi and it is great and within your budget.

The PC PRO web site has a list of the best bits call the" A list", and look for monitors, IIRC a philips screen has the top spot at the moment.
www.pcpro.co.uk or somthing similar.
