As I am starting proper frelance work I need to get myself some public liability insurance.

looked at E&L - cheap prices but high excess, photoguard (no excess) and PU camera insurance (small excess) both about the same and all have the same level of public liability.

any one had experience of claims from any of these companyies

I have had no experience of claims <touches wood> but i use Morgan Richardson (01277 630666).
They offer a potographer's economy policy which basically excludes the proffessional indemnity (useful if you fail to fulfill a contract and are sued as a result) and interrupted business cover.
Included cover relates to public liability, employer's liability and equipment cover "home and away"
You should pay around £450/annum for the full monty and probably only two thirds of that for the "economy", obviously dependant on your gear value.

... if you choose speak to them, ask for either Karen or Louise and tell them that fat dave from the isle of man, offerred the reccomendation.

I'm with Photo-Shield, the photographic division of Winsover Howden Insurance Brokers Ltd. www.winsoverhowden.com, Tel 08451 305 060

Ask for Jenny (Jennifer Wood). She's lovely.

I pay £375.48 per annum for a reasonably substantial amount of gear. This covers me for UK and 45 days Worldwide per year on my photographic equipment, is new for old, and includes £500 props, £1K portfolio, negs & transparencies, £2K laptop, £2.5K goods in trust and £1M public liability and £1M products liability.

I've never had to make a claim. I used to be with Hiscox through the same broker. www.hiscox.com. Similar price for same level of cover.

You could try Glover and Howe too. I've used them for years and they've always been helpful, although I've never had to make a big claim.

I used these guys - RW Mott

Price were reasonable, and they seemed less restrictive than the others I looked at with regard to transporting gear.
