Ok Guys, I need help.

I am getting a camcorder for Xmas, budget £150 - £250

It will purely be for home footage, kids etc. I would Ideally like to be able to record, then do some editing on laptop (very simple editing) then burn it to a dvd (I'm sure my laptop does dvd burning)

I saw the gadget show & they reccomended the Sony DCR HC24E.

Any other suggestions?

thx

Have a look at this thread.

I know your budget is smaller, but the basic advice remains the same

That Sony range really is very good and will do everything you need it to. I can't remember off hand the model number I have...I believe it's the 34E....but they are all similar in operation and -certainly at the level you and I would use it - more than adequate.

As mentioned, take a look at that linked thread it has sound advice in there. The software/dvd burning is something over and above the camera purchase rather than with (if you see what I mean).

Also something to consider, make sure the camera has an a/v in/out if you (at any point) would like to connect a bullet cam to it.

Editing=MiniDV only for the moment at your budget.

Even the new hi def compression format (AVCHD) doesn't have any editors of note that can use it native.
