here's one I took 20 July 2005

we were talking about the moon during the xmas break; someone said that the same side of it always faces the same place on earth (maybe another post) they look quite similar, maybe its our locations as photographers made the difference?

From Reading last year (400mm)

Prefer half-full (or "gibbous" shots like Steve's though. More interesting somehow.

Or eclipses like this partial from September

Thats true (sort of) I believe, the same side of the moon, +/- a few percent always faces the earth. Apparently one lunar day (one complete revolution) is the same amount of time as it takes to orbit the earth once.

Or maybe I'm just talking shite? Some fantastic images there anyway!

Mine's a Nikon D2X with 80-400mm lens at full stretch.

I must give it a go. I've been messing with long night time exposures this weekend but there have been too many clouds around the moon to get a clear shot at it.

Just to keep you all motivated, here's what can be done with a humble 640x480 Webcam:

(Admittedly, affixed to a telescope)

You obviously don't drink to get such a seriously impressive handheld pic sir. I wish my tripod was as good as that!
