Having bitten the bullet and moved into the DSLR camp, I thought it only fair to share some initial efforts - Opinions welcome!

Love 3 & 4 thumbup

1 could maybe do with cropping out the left hand side imo.

Hi Digger Man - I highly recommend looking at the review given above - It's so comprehensive. From my viewpoint as a a beginner in the world of DSLR's, the D40 appeared perfect. It was the cheapest, (I'm not looking to buy any other lenses for a while - it only has AF on certain ones), and combines many of the features of the D70/D80 which are well regarded. Ok, it loses some of the more advanced options, which I as a beginner won't miss, but has the D80s screen and processor and *I think* a slightly updated version of the D70 kit lens. 6mp is enough for me/most people. It's really small and light which I love as I can carry easily (and take more pics), and the results seem to come out quite nicely. This should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, but is also quite interesting. Also consider the Canon 400d or a D70.

Cheers for the comments - I haven't done any post processing so agree some cropping may help!

Speedychrissie - I'm at UoB - I guess you are too, small world!
